-This week has been pretty busy, I entered a design contest over on this site called "Infectious.com" it's a pretty sweet competition site where you can upload your own design and have the chance to be featured on their site plus a gift certificate to some of their products. You can check it out here: (and vote if you like) [link]

-Tonight when I am back home from hanging with family business then i'll post a few more pics that I have been working on from last week. I have been working on toning some of my drawings using Photoshop. There really is something about the way that Photoshop renders images that make the drawings look different than in painter and kind of awesome. I wish that there was a way to consolidate both programs into one. I will post those later today.

-This week I am off on my trip to Guatelmala and then by the time I get back it will be time to start my digitial online painting class. Which I am pretty psyched about. I will be posting the stuff that I do for class as I complete my assignments week to week.  Until then it'll be more practice and experimenting…

More to come..have a good week everyone
Just a quick peek to see what I am working on next:

I am proud to announce that I have officially completed the first page of the Robot Manny comic.
The rest of the pages will need to be completed in time for MOCCA fest in April, which is technically about a month or so away. I am sure that it will be here be before you even know it. I have been working at the book steadily and I still don't feel like I am even close to being down with this.

So now it's February, and before you know it will be April. In addition I have also started  a color/digital painting class at SVA. So between all of that and working that hasn't left me with a lot of time to do posts and sketches as much as I used to. My hope though is that when the class does end, and when I do start posting again that the stuff that I am posting will be even better than before.

When I do have extended amounts of time, I do homework from class or work on the comic.
How does one find time for anything else and balance time?

This past week I started a coloring class to help get an understanding of how to apply color to drawings (one of the things that I still don't know how to do properly. I mostly apply color using techniques that I am copying..or I just make up the process as I go. The results for each of those tactics have been spotty at best. So Instead I have decided to take a class and get these aspects down, so that I can get better at applying color. I am super excited for the class and will post work as I go.

It's been a suuuuuper busy week with work, and in my spare time I have been working on the comic, watching tutorials and setting up the new MacBook Pro. So not a lot of time to do process work.
But..here is the latest page from the Robot Manny vol. 1 comic for Mocca fest.

This is just a post of a preview page from the first story. It's a work in progress of course, and there is still more work to do, but I have been working away steadily towards getting this done in time.
I still have to print and assemble.

Last week I did a post about completing and getting the lines that you wanted in Sketchbook Pro (see previous post). So this week I decided to finish up that sketch and turn it into a finished piece. Just to see what it would look like.

This weeks post is more of a long form post for a piece that I plan on completing over the weekend. The process is basically going to be a combination of both traditional and digital process.
Since this character has been drawn by so many other artists, I basically tried to put my own spin on it (like every artist does). So I did a bunch of roughs of Marvel flying, and in a bunch of different poses.

Over on the covered blog [link] , illustrators can submit their versions of famous comic book covers done in their own style.
One of my favorite comic book issues is GI-Joe #21 (the silent issue)..which is the story of Scarlett's rescue from Cobra by Snake Eyes (the issue has no dialogue at all....so good!)
This is my version of that cover.

This week's post is a self initiated piece that I thought up. The purpose being to try and work on painting a little bit more and adding shadows. I wanted to do a skateboarder piece that conveyed a sense on motion, and that had lighting as a big component as well.

You can see the rest of the process here:

So one of my favorite things to do is to do drawings and paintings of my favorite loved things and then post about them. This week's post is the "Cylon Interrogator" character from Battlestar Galactica.

So, i'm a little late with the post this week. Had some business happen, and I was still trying to finish up this piece before I could do a post. A while back I did a Hulk vs. Zombie piece that I thought was funny and that I wanted to post. Since I love drawing, illustrating and painting I wanted to use all three to see what I could come up with. I can't paint in color well....(yet) so I decided to do a gray scale painting that would help me get some practice on using values (light medium and dark values.) I will move up to color later.

One of the things that I am hoping to learn from using Painter, is not just how to use the program, but to also learn how to use the tips and tricks as part of my own work/paintings.
The next chapter that I completed covers painting a night scene using the image of a sleep walker.

Here is the second of my final projects from my illustration class. The idea is to recreate 3 movie posters replacing the main characters with metal or tin people. (the tin idea based on an idea that I created for a previous assignment). Below is the final image along with some steps along the way for each phase.

1) First I found the original movie poster online for personal use only (please don't sue me 20th Century Fox)

2) I then did a sketch based on the original movie poster except that I then turn the main characters into "tin people". Trying to keep the main positions and mood the same. When done I then bring this into Painter and finish up the image.

3)  I am no master painter..and I am learning as I go. I basically start with finding a color scheme (I used the original poster to base my colors). I then start filling in the values and adding an overall color to the painting. I then go in and fill in all the details (this takes a long time). I use some textures for parts of the dress and the sweater. To finish up I tweak the overall lighting on the candles and the background and Voila..painting #2 done. Now I just have the last and final painting do to. I will post that as soon as I am done. Enjoy

So even though my illustration class has ended, I am still working on the final projects (3 movie posters).
I am learning that completing works so that it doesn't look like poop takes a lot of patience and practice.
Here is the first of the final projects..now on to the next 2..
